Where it all began. This was the day before we left to New York to celebrate Daddy's 40th birthday.

Day 1. One last look at the ultrasound
Day 1. Mom whisked away to the ER
Day 1. Lots of equipment, plus the machine that goes PING (sorry, couldn't help the Monte Python reference)
Day 1. Janet was a trooper during the delivery. Other than some nausea later, there were no complications.
Day 1. And here he is, little Logan Kyle Bowie. This is about 10 minutes after delivery.

Day 1. Logan about two hours after delivery, all hooked up to the monitors. He is being fed through the umbilical, and the thing in his mouth is just helping regulate his breathing.

Day 2. Logan's isolette in the NICU. The unit can provide a very precise level of heat and moisture. They often put a blanket over it, as you can see to the left. When uncovered, they usually keep a tiny blanket over his eyes.
Day 2. They are giving Logan UV treatment to prevent jaundice, so they give him little shades to wear. As you can see, he is off the ventilator and on the CPAP, which assists with air pressure via the nose. This light also shows his fur, which will shed in a few weeks. We think he has Dad's lips.
Day 2. He was sleeping soundly when we saw him this time. This shows the CPAP more clearly. Aren't his fingernails lovely?
Day 3. A very special moment...Mom gets to finally hold her baby. This skin-to-skin care, called kangaroo care, is vital to Logan's development. Although the CPAP kept his breathing regular, Mom's own body temperature kept him warm. He rested very soundly during this time.
Day 3. Logan's first kangaroo care. The purple thing is his "binkie" that he enjoys suckling on. His eyes are noticeably less puffy than they were yesterday.
Day 4. Mom's first milk! Only a tiny bit but the antibodies in it makes it liquid gold for Logan.

Day 4 is bright and warm.
Day 8. Although they kept him on CPAP, he is down to a 5 and might be off it completely in the next day or two.
Day 8. Out like a light. The nurses have been saying that Logan is developing a pleasant disposition...he doesn't fuss too much and is able to soothe himself. Let's hope he keeps that up!
Day 17. Logan continues to grow. He now has his IV line out and is taking in all his feedings in his stomach via a tube through his nose. His CPAP is on the lowest setting, so he might not need it for much longer. His skin is becoming more person-like, too, which is nice.
Day 17. Logan has been opening his eyes more often, although it is frequently too bright in the NICU.
Day 17. He's up to 2 pounds, 13 ounces! And his belly button has completely healed.
Day 21. They took him off CPAP today to see how he does. He had a few episodes, but possibly because he was too relaxed on Daddy. Logan seemed more present and comfortable during kangaroo.
